Can I use Swype in my country?

Swype isn't available in a small number of countries. Here's the list, and what to do if you think this applies to you.

YOU'LL NEED

Nothing

Short answer: if you live in, or your account is registered in, one of the countries listed below, you won't be able to activate or use a Swype card right now.

Why some countries aren't supported

Swype works with banks and card networks around the world, and some countries have rules that make it impossible for those networks to operate there. This isn't something we can turn on or off per person — it's a restriction at the country level, so it applies to everyone in that location.

Countries where Swype isn't available

You won't be able to sign up, activate a card, or use an existing Swype account if you're located in:

  Afghanistan
  Belarus
  Cuba
  Democratic Republic of the Congo
  Ethiopia
  Hong Kong
  Iran
  Iraq
  Lebanon
  Libya
  Mali
  Myanmar
  Nicaragua
  North Korea
  Russia
  Somalia
  South Sudan
  Sudan
Ukraine (Crimea, Donetsk & Luhansk only)
  Venezuela
  Western Balkans
  Yemen
  Central African Republic

What happens if I'm in one of these countries?

If your location matches one of the countries above, a few things may happen:

You won't be able to finish signing up or activating your card
An existing card may be temporarily paused
Transactions made from that location may be declined

I'm traveling, not living there — does this still apply?

It can. If you try to use your card while physically in one of these locations, the transaction may not go through even if your home address is somewhere else. This isn't personal — it's how the underlying card networks handle these locations everywhere, not just on Swype.

Good to know: this list can change over time as global rules change. If a country isn't listed here anymore, or a new one is, it's because the underlying restrictions changed — not something specific to your account.
