TOTAL FEE TYPES

14

Summary: fees fall into five groups — transaction processing, declines, disputes, account maintenance, and funding. Most are charged automatically against the Card Account balance and deducted from the available funds at the time they're incurred.

Transaction & currency fees

Fee Amount
Same-currency purchase (online or in-store)Free
Foreign transaction fee$0.55 + 2.75%
Transactions below $5.00$0.10

Decline fees

Fee Amount
Domestic decline fee$0.15
International decline fee$0.55
Prohibited merchant decline fee$0.15
Domestic purchase reversed/returned$0.55
International purchase reversed$0.75
International refund received$0.55

Applies regardless of decline cause — insufficient funds, prohibited MCC, or the 95% balance policy all count.

Dispute & risk fees

Fee Amount
Chargeback / dispute fee (per dispute, any outcome)$50.00
Decline abuse fee (balance <$2.50 + >20% decline rate)Variable

The chargeback fee is non-refundable and applies whether the dispute is accepted, rejected, or withdrawn — including 3DS-authenticated transactions that get auto-declined as a dispute outcome. The decline abuse fee is a separate risk-monitoring trigger: low balance combined with a high decline rate on a single card can result in the card being terminated as well as fee assessment.

Account & funding fees

Fee Amount
Monthly account activation fee$2.50
Monthly maintenance fee (Sec. 7, ~30 days post-activation)$2.50/mo
Same Day ACH origination$4.00

Maintenance fees are deducted automatically if balance allows; if available balance is below the fee amount, only the remaining balance is deducted — this never creates a negative balance or extends credit. A card sitting at zero balance for 21 continuous days may be permanently closed.

Important

Model the chargeback fee and decline fees into your unit economics if your use case is exposed to either pattern at volume — both are flat per-event charges that scale linearly with transaction count, independent of transaction size. Third-party fees (ATM operators, POS surcharges) can also apply on top of this schedule and are outside Swype's control.
