Which rate do you use to convert money from one currency to another?

There isn't one exchange rate — there are two

How your wallet's USD balance gets converted, and why the rate the recipient's operator uses is a completely separate story.

Set by operator

This comes up a lot, so let's separate it clearly: there are two different exchange rates in play whenever money moves through Reloadly, and they're set by two completely different parties.

1. Your wallet's currency conversion

Our platform is pegged entirely to US Dollars (USD). Whenever we convert values and your account's balance, we use real-time exchange rates from xe.com.

ℹ️ This is the rate that applies to your own balance and transactions on the platform — not what the recipient's mobile operator uses on their end.

2. The operator's local currency conversion

When you send a top-up, the mobile operator applies its own exchange rate to convert the amount into the recipient's local currency. This rate varies by operator and by country — there's no single standard rate across the board.

💡 Tip: use our FX exchange rate API to determine the exact receiving amount before sending a top-up, instead of estimating it.
